Increased Emotional Intelligence

"It is important to understand that emotional intelligence is not the opposite of intelligence, it is not the triumph of heart over head -- it is the unique intersection of both.”

David Caruso, PhD, From “Emotional What?”

We develop emotional intelligence through the 'feeling-questions' we ask ourselves, and by the space we allow for realizing our answers. Most of us have been taught not to ask, not to give room to the emotional aspects of experience and as a result, we come to our adult lives sporting cars with fancy wheels and chrome exhausts, but underneath the hood the engine chugs and sputters and is barely operable.

The key to developing emotional intelligence (as well as to developing engine diagnostic and repair abilities) is a good ear. It takes time to listen to oneself, and skill to put what you hear into a useful context. Yet the ability to know what you feel, and have confidence in your ability to respond to a feeling (rather than react to it) -- is basic to the capacity for opening to life.

I provide a safe and nurturing environment for developing the art of listening and responding to the goings-on beneath your hood.
